Moisture Surveys and Water Damage Assessments
A moisture survey establishes where water has travelled, which materials are affected and whether further investigation or drying is required. It is useful when the visible area does not explain the full incident, when surfaces feel dry but concern remains, or when an insurer or property professional needs factual information.
The survey combines visual inspection with suitable moisture instruments and building-context assessment. Results are interpreted comparatively; a meter reading is not treated as a complete diagnosis without considering the material, position and surrounding conditions.
Non-destructive and targeted investigation
The assessment begins with the least disruptive methods. Where evidence suggests concealed moisture, targeted access may be recommended, but it is not carried out without authority and a clear reason.
What instruments can show
Pin and non-invasive moisture meters, hygrometers and thermal imaging may support the inspection. Thermal patterns can identify areas for further checking but do not prove moisture on their own.
What the customer receives
The output may include photographs, affected-area notes, recorded readings, likely migration routes, recommended next steps and limitations. The exact document depends on the instruction agreed before attendance.
Investigation in practice
Technical note. WME means wood moisture equivalent. On non-wood building materials it is used as a comparative reference reading and is not the actual percentage of water contained in plaster, masonry or screed. Thermal imaging highlights temperature differences that may indicate moisture; it does not prove moisture on its own.
