Emergency Escape of Water Response

An escape of water is any unplanned release of water inside a building, including failed pipework, appliance connections, tanks, heating systems and internal plumbing fittings. When water is still spreading, the first priority is to make the area safe, stop the source where possible and arrange the correct technical response.

My HomeDry provides telephone triage, water-damage assessment, extraction where required, moisture mapping and monitored structural drying. The initial call establishes what has happened, whether another trade is needed first and what information is required before attendance.

What to do during the first 30 minutes

Stop the source only where it is safe, keep people away from affected electrics and unsafe ceilings, and move vulnerable contents out of the wet area without putting yourself at risk. Take photographs if it can be done safely, then call with the property postcode, source of water and areas affected.

Which contractor is needed first?

A plumber normally repairs failed pipework or fittings. An electrician may be needed where water has affected circuits, light fittings or appliances. My HomeDry assesses the resulting water damage and plans extraction, drying, monitoring and recovery.

What happens at the first assessment

The affected rooms and likely migration routes are inspected. Moisture readings and photographs are recorded where appropriate, visible standing water is assessed, and the building materials are reviewed before equipment or controlled access is recommended.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Call immediately for guidance, but the water source normally needs to be stopped before a drying programme can operate effectively.
